What's new in Blawsa

Every version and what changed in it, newest first. Blawsa checks for new versions by itself and lets you know in the sidebar; one click installs the update. You can also look any time from Blawsa → Check for Updates…

Blawsa 0.1.0Latest

The first release: a fast, native Mac browser with spaces, pinned tabs, Peek and a command bar, that brings everything over from Arc or Chrome.

Try it

  • Open Blawsa and choose Bring my Arc over (or Import from Chrome). Your spaces arrive with their emoji and colours, and your history, so the command bar already knows your sites.
  • Swipe sideways with two fingers on the sidebar, or press ⌃1, ⌃2…, to move between spaces. Drag a space's icon along the bottom row to reorder them.
  • Press ⌘T and type a few letters of a site you use: open tabs, history and commands come up as you type. Type yt then Tab to search YouTube directly.
  • Click a link that would open a new tab: it opens in Peek, a card over the page. Esc closes it; the button beside its corner keeps it as a tab.
  • Press ⇧⌘N for a private window: dark, and nothing in it is kept.

New

  • Spaces, each with an emoji, a colour that can fade into a second one, and its own pinned tabs and folders. Give a space its own logins and it gets its own cookies, sign-ins and extension data, kept between launches.
  • Favorites at the top of the sidebar, with unread counts from the page title. Spaces that share logins share favorites.
  • Pinned tabs remember the page you pinned. Wander off and the tab shows "favicon / where you are"; one click takes you back. ⌘W puts a pinned tab to sleep instead of removing it.
  • Today's tabs below the divider, archived after 12 hours unseen (or 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days, never). Clear archives them all; the Archive brings any of them back.
  • Peek, like Arc's: links that would open a new tab open as a card about 80% as wide as the page, with round close, open-as-tab and copy-link buttons beside its corner.
  • Command bar (⌘T, ⌘L): addresses, searches, open tabs in every space, history and commands in one box, fast even with thousands of pages of history. Site shortcuts like yt then Tab search that site.
  • Little Blawsa: links from other apps open in a small window you can move into a space or dismiss.
  • Import from Arc: spaces with their emoji and colours, pinned tabs, folders, favorites, today's tabs, history and, if you tick them, saved passwords. Your Arc extensions come over with their settings from the Extensions page.
  • Import from Chrome: history and saved passwords from every Chrome profile. Import from Arc and Chrome in either order, as often as you like: nothing is doubled, and a login saved in both keeps whichever password was changed most recently.
  • Pages are drawn by Chromium 156, so sites work as they do in Chrome, with Developer Tools in every right-click menu (⌥⌘I).
  • Chrome extensions: add any extension from the Chrome Web Store. Pinned extensions sit above your favorites and open their popup in place, and popups know which tab you're on. The Extensions page (type chrome://extensions) works like Chrome's, with Developer mode, and Load unpacked runs an extension from its folder, reloading as you save, with its errors listed.
  • Passwords (⌥⌘P): one set for every space, encrypted on this Mac with a key kept in your Keychain. Showing or copying one asks for Touch ID, and a copied password clears itself from the clipboard after 90 seconds. Blawsa offers logins only on the exact site they were saved for, and offers to save new ones once a sign-in succeeds.
  • Private windows (⇧⌘N): no history, no saved tabs, and cookies and site data kept in memory only, gone when you close the window. Extensions don't run there.
  • Downloads: a button at the bottom of the sidebar with a ring that fills as files arrive. Click it (or press ⇧⌘J) for the list, with pause, resume and cancel; click a finished file to open it, or drag it into another app. Downloaded files are marked as coming from the web, so macOS checks them before they open.
  • Light on your Mac: background tabs sleep after 30 minutes and come back showing the page as you left it while they reload. Each set of logins keeps at most 512 MB of cache, and logins you haven't used in 30 days have theirs cleared (never your sign-ins).
  • Four themes: Glass (frosted and tinted by each space), Daylight, Midnight and Match Mac, with film grain on every window.
  • Video fullscreen fills the screen. Sites ask before using your camera, microphone or location.
  • Blawsa updates itself: when a new version is out, a card in the sidebar offers to install it.
